What a Host Home Actually Is
A host home is a family-style living arrangement: one to two adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities living with a trained, screened host home provider in a real home, not an institutional setting. It's an alternative to a licensed group home, built around one consistent relationship instead of rotating staff. For adults whose needs call for a different setting, group and individualized residential options are also available through Colorado's HCBS-DD waiver.
Host home matching means touring two to three homes before any decision gets made. We match on fit, personality, pace, and daily rhythm, not just on what's available that week.

Host Home vs. Group Home: What's the Real Difference?

Residential Care, Answered Plainly
A host home places one to two individuals with a single trained host family in a real home. A group home is a licensed, staffed residence serving a small group of residents with rotating staff. Both are valid, Medicaid-eligible paths; the right one depends on what your family member needs.
Primarily through Colorado's Medicaid HCBS-DD waiver, which funds a needs-based provider stipend rather than a facility fee. Private pay is also an option. We'll walk your family through the waiver process in plain language.
Saying no, or asking to change homes, is a normal and expected part of the process. We treat "not this one" as useful information, not a failure, and we stay involved after move-in so a mismatch gets caught early rather than late.
Every host home provider is screened and trained before a match is ever made, and we stay engaged with providers on an ongoing basis, not just at intake. Consistency and low turnover are part of what makes the model work.
